$900,000 Settlement for Failure to Diagnose Breast Cancer

Carol Forte represented a 60-year-old woman who had a mammogram that was incorrectly read as negative. Thereafter, she complained to three different doctors of a lump in her breast, each of whom either was inappropriately reassured by the negative mammogram that there was no need for a biopsy, or who never examined the breast. No biopsy was done, leading to a two year delay in diagnosing her lobular breast cancer. Our client required a mastectomy she otherwise would not have had, and the delay has increased her chance of cancer recurrence. Ms. Forte was able to settle this claim for $900,000.
