$525,000 Settlement for Damaged Brachial Plexus Nerves
- Date: Winter 2007
- Attorney: Jeffrey Zenna
- Settlement: $525,000
- Practice Areas: Medical Malpractice, Brachial Plexus Injury, Shoulder Dystocia, Erb’s Palsy, Birth Injury
Jeffrey Zenna represented a seven-year-old girl in this medical malpractice case. The girl sustained a brachial plexus injury, caused at birth by the negligence of an obstetrician. The brachial plexus nerves control shoulder, arm, wrist and finger function. A shoulder dystocia was encountered during delivery (where the shoulders get “stuck”), and the proper maneuvers were not utilized to free the impacted shoulders. Too much force to the head and neck were applied by the delivering obstetrician during the birth. The injury to the brachial plexus nerves mildly affects the girl’s control of her shoulder and arm, and required physical therapy. Jeffrey Zenna settled this case for $525,000.
