John Blume recently obtained a $1 million recovery on behalf of a 7 year-old client whose pediatricians failed to timely diagnose her bilateral hip dysplasia. This condition, often referred to as congenital hip dislocation, can easily be diagnosed with a proper hip examination within the first 6 months of life. When timely diagnosed, the treatment is the application of a harness for a short period of time. This would have caused the heads of the femurs to be placed in the proper position within the acetabulums, which would have permitted the hip joints to develop properly. Because of the delay, the child had to undergo five operations on her hips, and will probably require hip replacement surgery before she reaches 50 years of age.
