$800,000 Settlement for Car Accident / Wrongful Death
- Date: Summer 2007
- Attorney: John M. Blume & Firm
- Settlement: $800,000
- Practice Areas: Motor Vehicle Accident, Wrongful Death
Blume Goldfaden partner John M. Blume and another firm attorney represented a family involved in a motor vehicle accident in 2004. The husband (driver) and wife (passenger) were traveling in a van on a roadway which accommodated one lane of traffic in each direction, divided by a double yellow line. The defendant crossed the double yellow line and hit our clients’ vehicle head-on, killing the 68-year-old wife and mother of seven grown children. Mr. Blume and the other attorney were able to secure a Court ruling which dispensed with any liability issues, making the matter one for consideration of damages only. In addition, Mr. Blume and the other attorney represented another family member (the decedent’s son) who was traveling in a car behind his parents. The son’s claims were based in his psychological injuries, as he had witnessed the accident, his mother’s injuries, and her death. The case was settled during Court hearings on the “eve” of trial.
